KNYSNA NEWS - Traffic was delayed for more than two hours today, Thursday 27 May, as residents of Hlalani barricaded both lanes of the N2 near Nekkies.
Knysna Municipality issued a notice at 11:38 informing motorists that the N2 was closed due to protest action.
“Every effort will be made to reopen the road as soon as possible. Law enforcement officers are on site and the police have been notified,” read the notice.
The municipality apologised for the inconvenience.
At 14:00 the road was reopened and the municipality notified the public that both lanes were open. “The police and law enforcement officials are still on the scene to monitor the situation,” read the notice.
According to an eyewitness, Nosphiwo Stemela, the protesters were allegedly people from Hlalani who were demanding houses.
“They were tired of staying in shacks and were demanding houses,” she said.
