GEORGE NEWS - Premier Helen Zille was the keynote speaker at a Skills Development Summit at the George Civic Centre earlier today.
Chaired by Prof Johnson of the NMU George Campus, the summit addressed the need for skills development in the Garden Route, especially with the recent fire disaster in Knysna in mind.
The Garden Route Rebuild Initiative gave a presentation regarding the work that’s being done in Knysna and the needs identified. In her address to the guests at the summit, Zille focused on the importance of energy economy (oil and gas), tourism, agri-processing and renewable energy.
She said the Garden Route should be an all-year tourist destination.
Representatives of the Eden District Municipality, George and other municipalities in the district, Setas, the National Skills fund, tertiary institutions and local businesses joined the summit.
