GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Wilderness Art Association with much excitement announces the commencement of the A5 Doodle drive towards the second Night of 1 000 Drawings to be held on 8 October as part of this year's Wilderness Art Festival on 7, 8 and 9 October.
Last year's Wilderness Art Festival was held in February and raised R32 000 through the Night of 1 000 Drawings, the proceeds of which were donated to Seven Passes Initiative in Touwsranten.
The Seven Passes Initiative operates in communities in and around Touwsranten, assisting with academic support to all school-going children in the community, as well as work and further learning opportunities for young people.
As the WRRA's understanding of the unique needs of the children, young people and parents in this community increased, it was able to adapt and expand its services which now also include:
- Safe, nurturing and stimulating after-school care and holiday programmes for children;
- Balanced meals for children and parents attending the after-school centre and parenting programmes;
- A life-skills programme for all children aged 5 to 18;
- A special programme for all school-aged children on Fridays to stimulate play and creativity;
- Support for parents through four positive parenting programmes.
The WAA managed to mobilise the communities of George, Wilderness, Touwsranten and Sedgefield to doodle, sketch and paint A5 artworks that were donated and sold off at R100 each.
This year the organisers once again appeal to the public to get involved and "Give a Doodle" for the Night of 1 000 Drawings. It's for a good cause!
Dropboxes for artworks are at Cabesa Gallery at Palms Garden Square, The Little Art Shop at Paddagat, Art Savings Club and at the Seven Passes Initiative.
It's all art, bring it!
