KNYSNA NEWS - The humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers has been providing critical water relief to Knysna and surrounding areas since 12 December, as ongoing water shortages continue to place pressure on local communities.
The operation currently supports Knysna, Brenton and Sedgefield, with two water tanker trucks and one water tanker trailer deployed to ensure the continued delivery of water to affected areas.
As part of the intervention, a total of 44 JoJo water tanks have been allocated to the area.
Four 2 500-litre tanks have been installed at the Provincial Hospital for use by clinics, while two 10 000-litre tanks have been placed at Correctional Services in Knysna. An additional 10 000-litre tank is scheduled for placement on Monday.
A further 37 tanks are already on site and ready for placement, including 10 tanks with a capacity of 5 000 litres, eight 2 500-litre tanks and 19 tanks holding 2 400 litres each. One additional 10 000-litre tank is currently en route.
In preparation for a potential Day Zero scenario, bottled spring water supplied by Gift of the Givers has also arrived in Knysna and is being safely stored in warehouses.
The bottled water forms part of contingency planning to ensure emergency access to drinking water should municipal supplies become critically low.
The intervention forms part of Gift of the Givers' rapid humanitarian response to assist communities facing water insecurity. Residents are urged to continue using water sparingly while relief efforts remain under way.
JoJo tanks delivered by Gift of the Givers form part of ongoing relief efforts to support Knysna communities affected by water shortages.
Along with water tanks, Gift of the Givers is storing bottled spring water in warehouses.
These high-capacity JoJo tanks will be installed to support clinics, correctional facilities and communities during ongoing water constraints.
