KNYSNA NEWS - A group of victims of the June fires that swept through Plettenberg Bay celebrated new beginnings on Spring Day when Bitou Family Care hosted a gala dinner.
"The theme of the event was 'new season, new beginnings'. The aim was to give those affected a positive experience, to encourage them through the collective. There is power in standing together. We are in this together and we will come out better and stronger," said Bitou Family Care general coordinator Stephan Wenz.
This Plett-based NGO aims to transform disadvantaged communities by offering love, support and care to families and children.
The event was held at the local Anglican church hall on Friday 1 September, and more than 150 locals attended.
About 70 local businesses and individuals also donated vouchers which were distributed among the families through lucky draws.
The master of ceremonies was former racing commentator Francois Wolfaardt, and guest speakers included Bitou deputy mayor Jessica Kamkam and Peter and Sabine Wenz from the Gospel Forum in Stuttgart, Germany.
Deputy mayor Jessica Kamkam was a guest speaker at the event.
