KNYSNA NEWS - Major General Johan Jooste, the esteemed author of the captivating book Rhino War, presented a riveting talk at Knysna Hollow on Friday 1 September.
The event, facilitated by Sasha Events, was a gathering of wildlife enthusiasts and conservation advocates eager to delve into the world of rhino conservation.
Jooste is a highly respected figure in wildlife conservation and anti-poaching efforts. As the head of Special Projects at SANParks, he has been instrumental in combatting poaching, particularly of rhinos, in Kruger National Park.
He has implemented strategic initiatives, deployed anti-poaching units and utilised advanced technologies to track and apprehend poachers.
His dedication and expertise have helped reduce rhino poaching incidents and preserve South Africa's wildlife for future generations. Rhino War has garnered widespread acclaim for its gripping account of the challenges faced in safeguarding rhinos from the clutches of ruthless poachers.
Jooste took the audience on a captivating journey into the heart of the rhino conservation movement. His passionate storytelling and firsthand accounts had the audience on the edge of their seats, immersed in the realities and complexities of combatting illegal wildlife trade.
"Rhino War is about a very intense period in my line of work. However, I think the book brings a lot of hope in its anecdotes and a lot of the lessons I've learnt in my many years of conservation. My work in conservation is my passion, and it has been a luxury to share my life's passion with others in this book," said Jooste.
