PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Ten penguins waddled back into the ocean at Lookout Beach in Plettenberg Bay today Saturday, 26 April - and back to the freedom of the seas.
The penguin release at 09:00 was organised by the Nature’s Valley Trust, Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation and Awareness centre, SANParks and Plett Birdlife.
It came a day after World Penguin Day, and a day before Freedom Day.
Keri McMorron, animal keeper and managing director of Tenikwa, shed a tear as the penguins, with names like Dublin, Flipper, Elias and Carolus, braved the breakers into the Indian Ocean.
“It takes a village to save, raise and release them… Plett’s never let us down! Without such a community we wouldn’t be able to do what we do,” added McMorron.
