KNYSNA NEWS - Nathan McKock, an educator at Fraaisig Primary School, was awarded with a certificate of excellence in teaching life orientation by the Western Cape Education Department.
The prestigious award ceremony was held on Friday 3 October at Planetshakers Church in Cape Town.
This recognition honours his dedication to holistic education, learner empowerment, and professional leadership within the school community.
Dedicated to integral learner development
McKock began his teaching career at Fraaisig Primary in 2015 in the Intermediate Phase. His early work focused on foundational literacy, numeracy and life skills.
Over the years, his commitment to learner-centred teaching, collaboration and innovation earned him increasing leadership responsibilities, culminating in his current role as lead teacher for life skills/life orientation.
His recent professional development includes a Fine and Gross Motor Skills course (2024) and the Department Head Roles and Responsibilities programme (2025) through the Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI), equipping him with important leadership and administrative skills.
Inspiring leadership beyond the classroom
McKock is known for his engaging lessons that help learners develop self-awareness, resilience and ethical decision-making. He also leads the school's Eco Club, inspiring learners to become environmentally conscious.
"Receiving this award is more than just a personal milestone - it's a reflection of the values I strive to instil in my learners every day: resilience, empathy, and integrity," McKock said.
