KNYSNA NEWS - Five men who are on a mission to promote peace in Africa passed through Knysna on Thursday 26 June during their current long-distance walk from Durban to Tanzania.
The men, Siyanda Dlamini, Melo Ndlovu, Mlungisi Khoza, Siphesihle Mwandla and Thanda Maxasa, said all they want is peace on the African continent.
According to Dlamini, the leader of the group, they have been walking for peace for the past three years. They embarked on their current journey two months ago.
"It's a walk to promote peace from God because we believe that everything we need must be done through God. He must be included so that we are able to prosper as Africa," Dlamini said.
He believes that, with God's help, societal problems such as poverty, crime, and the lack of safety in townships can be dealt with.
"The message we are carrying is that God must bless our Africa with blessings from Him so that we can tackle these issues that we are facing in the society."
While the men have tents to sleep in, they said people often offer them place to sleep. In Knysna they slept at Island Vibe Backpackers and were hoping to sleep in Sedgefield that evening.
"If you look after the community, then the community will look after you too," Dlamini said. "It is a collective effort - whatever we do, those who have means help us too."
