KNYSNA NEWS - Two Plettenberg Bay boxers came out victorious in an Easter boxing tournament in George over the weekend.
Sibulele Jabavu (17) won his fight against Mohammed Mboye from Mossel Bay on points, while Xolisa Phatho won his fight against another Mossel Bay boxer, Luxolo Dubula, with a technical knockout in the third round.
Pleasing performance
Their coach, Gcobani Tom of the Plettenberg Bay-based Siyanqoba Boxing Academy, said he was pleased with the performance of his two young boxers who earned gold medals.
"They fought very well as their opponents were not walkovers. As amateur boxers, they also followed instructions very well," he said.
"The next step from here is to challenge for the professional provincial bouts. A Western Cape provincial championship tournament will be held in Mossel Bay on 3 May and I want to be part of that event.
I want them to get professional fighting experience now, because I can see that they are ready to contest on that stage."
The Easter tournament was organised by Sobhuza Boxing Club in George.
