KNYSNA NEWS - Dancers from Carmen's School of Dance entered the Friendly City Dance Festival held in Gqeberha from 6 to 11 June.
The five young dancers entered in various solo and ensemble categories, where they hoped that their many hours of hard work and effort would be rewarded with good results.
The girls, ranging from 10 to 14 years old, exceeded all expectations and brought home a total of seven double gold (90-100%) and 12 gold (80-89%) placement awards.
Celyn Godfrey, who entered the additional 11-12 year-old Pre-Junior Championship in the ballet section, received the runner-up award for her very first endeavour in this section.
The many hours of lessons, practice and effort these young students put in, made the trip and participation an inspirational event. "The fun and camaraderie that help these girls grow cannot be underestimated and the positive experience for personal growth is priceless," said Carmen de Sousa, the teacher and founder of the dance school. "As their teacher I applaud them and their mothers for their total commitment and drive to fulfil their dreams. A proud moment for all of us."
