PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Ward 3 Bitou councillor Thembela Mhlana had his office, housed in a rented container at the Bossiesgif community hall, removed from under him.
On Monday 3 February he went to his office, to find the owner of the container had collected the container - and left his council furniture on the lawn in front of the hall.
Wiring disconnected
The electric wiring had been disconnected and was left exposed.
Mhlana said his problem started when he moved six months ago
from his original office, which had been damaged during unrest, because the roof was leaking.
He was then moved to the container outside the Bossiesgif community hall.
Eviction threat
The rental of the container came to a head two weeks ago when the container owner had allegedly threatened to evict him.
The acting director of corporate affairs had told Mhlana he refused to continue paying the contractor, alleging a "corrupt activity" in the rental of two containers at R20 000 a month.
'Wrote to officials'
Mhlana said he had written to the speaker, Mavis Busakwe, whose responsibility it was to provide councillors with office space, and municipal manager Mbulelo Memani, who said on 23 January he was "not aware of the matter as raised here and need to follow up".
"I need the office space to perform my duties," said Mhlana.
