KNYSNA NEWS - A young boy is on the road to recovery after he was attacked by dogs in Hornlee yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 2 June.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known, it is believed that the incident took place at the Hornlee Sports Grounds.
The boy was transported to a hospital in George, where he has been treated. This according to Ward 6 councillor, Ricky van Aswegen who is currently with the family of the boy.
"He has been treated as best possible in George, but he will be transported to a hospital in the Cape for further treatment," van Aswegen confirmed.
Van Aswegen also confirmed that he is in contact with the owner of the dogs.
According to Knysna Animal Welfare Society manager, Annelien Kitley, a Kaws inspector had to put down two Pitbulls following the incident, while a German Shepherd which was also involved in the incident, was brought into Kaws this morning, and subsequently put down as well.
Van Aswegen noted that these are simply the procedures that need to be followed in an incident like this.
He was also sickened by the reaction of the community on social media. "There has been a lot of speculation, and horrible images spread all over social media, and people do not realise how this affects the family," he said.
He urged the public to refrain from making any statements or spreading any information without it being confirmed first as it "can harm the family and others involved in the incident".
