KNYSNA NEWS - More than 250 older persons and people living with disabilities were treated to a day of care and pampering when local charity organisation Changes of Knysna celebrated the first anniversary of its monthly pamper programme with a special event at the Hornlee Civic Centre last Wednesday, 22 July.
The celebration was attended by community members, volunteers, stakeholders and local leaders, including Mayor Thando Matika and Garden Route District Municipality Speaker Georlene Wolmarans.
Guests enjoyed a range of complimentary services, including manicures, hand and foot massages, haircare treatments and refreshments.
Speaking on behalf of Changes of Knysna, Charmaine Sinclair said many older persons and people living with disabilities are unable to enjoy these simple luxuries, while others have little or no family support. “Changes of Knysna is about ordinary people who are committed to being the change they want to see in the world,” she said.
Matika in his speech encouraged residents to visit elderly relatives, phone them regularly or stay connected through video calls if distance made visits difficult.
He also thanked the organisers, volunteers and stakeholders whose continued generosity has helped uplift vulnerable residents across Knysna’s 11 wards.
