KNYSNA NEWS – Nurses at Vermont Centre recently had the opportunity to celebrate International Nurses Day for the very first time in the almost 26 years of the centre's existence.
The celebrations proved to be a great inspiration to all nurses. International Nurses Day is held every year on 12 May, the day of the birth of Florence Nightingale in 1820.
During the event at Vermont, a motivational speaker shared her experiences with the centre's nurses and praised them for their sterling work and the sacrifices they make in the caring for those who can't care for themselves.
Proudly dressed in their best uniforms, nurses sang beautiful choruses, lit their 'Florence Nightingale' lamps and observed a moment of silence for all their fallen colleagues, especially those who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The executive board of the centre also thanked and acknowledged all nurses and their families for their contribution to caring for the residents.
It was highlighted that nurses are the backbone and heartbeat of the healthcare community worldwide and should be recognised for it.
