OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The Cango Caves will be temporarily closed following the alert level 4 regulations announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday 27 June.
According to the Museum Ordinance 8 of 1975, Cango Caves is classified as a museum, and therefore alert level 4 regulations for museums are applicable.
Paragraph 24 (1) of alert level 4 regulations reads as follows: “Any place or premises normally open to the public where religious, cultural, entertainment, recreational, or similar activities, which are prohibited in terms of these regulations, may take place, is closed. (2) The following places or premises normally open to the public or where people may gather, are closed and include – (j) museums, libraries, archives and galleries;”
These regulations are effective until 11 July 2021.
The temporary closure of the Cango Caves will be reviewed in line with the President’s next announcement.
