KNYSNA NEWS - Inspired by the recent visit of the South African Army Band and the Community Philharmonic Orchestra, a group of Knysnarians and music professionals have come together to establish Knysna’s very own orchestra.
Desmond Solomon, CEO of the newly registered non-profit Knysna Orchestra, says the initiative is a passion project designed to bring the community together through the power of music.
“We believe the orchestra will enrich Knysna’s cultural landscape and offer a platform for both local and professional musicians to showcase their talents,” said Solomon.
The Knysna Orchestra will be event-driven, focusing on performances within Knysna and surrounds.
While future outreach efforts are planned, Solomon emphasised that the current priority is to build a solid foundation.
“We have to build first before considering performances outside of Knysna. This orchestra is being designed for Knysna,” he explained.
As part of its launch, the Knysna Orchestra is now actively recruiting musicians and support staff to join its inaugural team.
Applicants must be able to read music and are invited to apply for the following positions: Strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, rhythm section, pianist, administrative support, marketing and promotions.
“There are so many venues in and around Knysna to host concerts. We are so excited and can’t wait for this initiative to take flight,” Solomon said.
Interested applicants are encouraged to email their details and relevant experience to: knysnaorchestra@gmail.com
