KNYSNA NEWS - The Southern Cape Bridge Union's red-point competition attracted bridge players from George, Wilderness, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna to the Knysna Angling Club and this time around there was a fun element: held on the last day of October, the Knysna Duplicate Bridge Club decorated the hall in Bavarian colours and called it “Oktoberbridgefest”.
Because there were morning and afternoon sessions it was possible that every pair played every other pair.
With the players all dressed in the Bavarian blue-and-white, the lunch menu of Sauerkraut, Thuringer Bratwurst (specially made by Greeff’s Butchery) and Apfelkuchen mit Sahne (kindly baked by the club’s own Claudia from Bavaria) helped to enhance the themed atmosphere.
During lunch, Steve Collinson from N2RS presented an Octoberfest Fun Quiz. Team Plett Plonkers 1 consisting of Mary Walter and Steph Roche came first, and Claudia and Bernard Richards came second.
The overall prize winners were Gail Bezuidenhout (Wilderness) and Heidi Atkinson (Knysna) and the runners-up were Karin van der Merwe and Judy Walsh (George).
