KNYSNA NEWS - Thanks to the brand new laptop and printer that bright young Knysna learner Sesona Mahashe received as a prize for her academic prowess at Percy Mdala High School last year, she can now face her first year at Wits University with confidence.
The prize was handed to her at the annual Homecoming Christmas concert hosted at Percy Mdala recently by Knysna gospel singer Loyiso Vakele, who also offered motivation to support some learners, over and above his celebrated performances.
"I love doing community work so whenever I get the opportunity I always try to make it count," Vakele said, adding that a highlight was offering the prize to Sesona. "The message which many welcomed and were inspired by that working hard pays off"
The 18 year old Mahashe, who clocked into the Faculty of Humanities at Wits this week to hopefully one day specialise in Audiology, said she was honoured to have received the laptop.
"It felt like all my efforts matter and are appreciated which is rather strange and beautiful. Strange because I had no choice but to work hard."
She says having the laptop has equipped her for varsity and this will allow her to easily access information and work in the comfort of her own place, "more than anything this has lighten the weight for my parents".
