PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Over the past few years it has almost become the norm in Bitou that recycling is not collected on waste removal day, with the municipality encouraging residents to drop their recyclable materials at its waste transfer station in Kwanokuthula or the facility at Old Nick.
When it happened again last week, the municipal communication team clarified that it was due to "operational circumstances beyond the municipality's control".
The municipality is currently in the process of appointing an interim contractor. Bid specifications for the appointment of a new recycling contractor had been prepared and will soon be advertised.
"Unforeseen technical procurement-related matters have delayed the appointment, however our teams are working tirelessly to have this resolved," the team said.
"The municipality has gone to great lengths to ensure that the tender now caters for more than just the collection of recyclable materials but also to cover broader aspects in our bid to reduce the amount of waste disposed of at the regional landfill facility."
In the meantime, recyclable materials may still be dropped off at the two collection sites.
