KNYSNA NEWS - A team of Knysna detectives assembled to investigate charges and counter charges during a fracas between ANC factions in Concordia on 11 May have arrested eight suspects since Wednesday 21 May, according to SAPS.
Sergeat Christopher Spies, SAPS spokeperson, said the arrests were made on charges of assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm and common assault.
All the suspects were released and warned to appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s court on 30 May.
The incidents took place at Concodria on 11 May during a registration day for the upcoming by-election on 25 June, called after the resignation of former Knysna mayor Aubrey Tsengwa.
A number of high-ranking ANC provincial officials were present when alleged fighting broke out between two ANC factions after questions had been asked about a house-to-house resigistration process that had allegedly not been sanctioned by top ANC structures.
”Particulars of the suspects cannot be divulged by the police at this stage as they are yet to appear in court,” said Spies.
“Investigation into all other cases reported forms part of ongoing police investigations,” added Spies.
