KNYSNA NEWS - A 34-year-old man was recently arrested after allegedly attacking a vehicle at a traffic light in Waterfront Drive, near Metelerkamps.
The incident occurred at about 10:20 on Saturday 14 June, when a local woman and her daughter were stopped at the light, waiting.
According to the victim, a man believed to be from the nearby informal settlement near Waste-by-Rail approached their vehicle and violently struck the rear window with an unidentified object.
The pair managed to escape unharmed, though the back window was shattered in the attack.
The victim said the police and security services responded swiftly, and the suspect was apprehended shortly afterwards as he made his way back toward the settlement.
Chris Spies, spokesperson for the Southern Cape police, confirmed that the man was taken into custody on a charge of malicious damage to property. He was scheduled to appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court.
The incident has raised fresh concerns among residents about increased vagrancy and safety in the town.
"I can't believe this is happening on a Saturday morning in Knysna," said the victim. Something urgently needs to be done about the squatters and the vagrants all over town."
