PLETTENBERG BAY & KNYSNA NEWS - Residents from Phase 5 in Kwanokuthula reportedly staged unrest yesterday over the presence of undocumented foreign nationals. The 30 June deadline has sparked widespread concern and tension in various communities and towns, not only in Kwanokuthula.
Reports of a similar incident reportedly took place in Knysna Industrial on Thursday, 11 June, with several community engagements held between the municipality, SAPS, community representatives and other stakeholders regarding anti-migrant groups and concerns among greater Knysna residents over undocumented foreign nationals.
As the deadline approaches, foreign nationals are reportedly fearing for their safety, while anti-migrant groups consisting of disgruntled local community members have formed, calling for the removal of undocumented immigrants.
Some anti-migrant groups are also allegedly planning a national shutdown on this date; however, this has not yet been confirmed or verified by authorities.
This is a developing story. An inquiry has been sent to the police, Bitou Municipality and Knysna Municipality, their response will be published once received.
