Update
KNYSNA NEWS - A bitch and her puppies in Smutsville have been granted a new lease of life through a kennel donated by the team at Sedgefield Animal Matters (Sam) last week.
The new doggy home comes as the latest fruit in the growing partnership between Sam and another NGO in Knysna that helps take care of animals in township areas – CX Township Animals in Need, headed up by Penny Mainwaring.
The two organisations go out of their way in areas that need their help most, and CX Township Animals in Need is partnered with the Knysna Timber Village to help build kennels for animals using old wooden palettes.
During one of their weekly visits to Smutsville, Sam was approached on Tuesday 3 March by a woman who told them about a deaf bitch with four puppies that has a loving home, but is in need of a kennel. So Jean de Groot of Sam contacted Mainwaring to find out if there are any kennels available, to which the response was a heartwarming yes. The next day, De Groot set out to Knysna to retrieve the kennel and take it back to Smutsville.
Little more than a day after first catching wind of it, Sam delivered the kennel and the mother and her pups had a brand new home, with the owners only asked to pay whatever they could afford for the kennel. According to Sam founder Kirsty Hofhuis, the mother was apprehensive at first, but once she began settling into the new kennel she underwent a complete personality overhaul.
The kennel is offloaded to be set up for the dog.
One of the puppies enjoys some milk from mom.
The mom enjoys some food in the safe haven of their new kennel.
