KNYSNA NEWS - Joan Louwrens is a doctor who has been a resident of Knysna since 1984.
At the recent Knysna Literary Festival she launched her first book Making Track.
She says the book was birthed out of adversity after her husband had passed away when their children were still young, and she wanted to document his life for them.
"But I realised his life might have been a bit short to write about properly, so it morphed into something else. It has his story in it, but also contains some of my own life experiences.
"From working on the island of St Helena to cycling from Cape to Cairo – it's all in there.
"From travelling to adventure, all while surviving with two kids."
