SEDGEFIELD NEWS - Long-term residents of the Slow Town, Shirlea and Eddie Lloyd, are once again brightening up Christmas in Sedgefield this year, beautifully decorating their house at 37 Swallow Drive with Christmas lights for the umpteenth time.
The couple have lived in Sedgefield for 45 years, and in 2005 Shirlea had a burning desire to start putting up Christmas lights outside their home.
What started out with a few lights and pieces in a small window and corner of the house 17 years ago, has grown into a massive collection of lights and trinkets that adorn the front lawn and front facade of the house.
It truly is a sight to behold, and brings to mind the light-covered houses one has come to see in Hollywood Christmas movies. The lights are turned on every day between 20:00 and 22:00 (Eskom and weather permitting), and all are welcome to come and feast their eyes on the stunning set-up.
According to the couple, it takes no less than two months to set up the lights beforehand.
"You know, we have three people living in our house – myself and Shirlea, plus Santa Claus with all of his stuff," quipped Eddie. They have no intentions of slowing down either. "Our collection grows every year, we're always looking out for what we can add," said Shirlea.
The house is even visited by one of Santa's elves every day, for the first half-hour of the evening. On Christmas Eve, Saturday 24 December, they will also be visited by Santa Claus who will hand out some presents to the kiddies.
Shirlea and Eddie have a donation collection box, with all proceeds going towards Sedgefield charities. The lights will be up until 31 December, so be sure to pop in and say hi to the folks who are lighting up Christmas in Sedgefield.
