KNYSNA NEWS - When you walk through the doors of Vermont Old Age Home in Knysna, you quickly realise that it is more than just a building on a hill - it is a home, a place where love still thrives.
This heartfelt sentiment was shared by Werner Erasmus-Le Grange, chairperson of Vermont, as the centre celebrated its 30th anniversary on Friday 31 October.
The milestone was especially poignant, given the uncertainty surrounding the future of the home just a year ago. "Reaching this 30-year mark almost seemed impossible," said Le Grange, "as closing the centre was looming due to financial constraints."
Thanks to the support of the community, dedicated staff, and committed donors, Vermont was able to continue its mission of providing compassionate care for the elderly.
At the event, Ricky van Aswegen, treasurer of Vermont, also expressed his pride in being part of the centre and all that has been achieved.
He noted that many other NPOs look up to Vermont, commending its management, staff, and sponsors for their unwavering contribution to the centre's success and remarkable growth over the years.
The anniversary celebration was a joyous occasion, bringing together residents, families, staff and supporters. "Vermont is not just a building; it is a home where love lives, and we are proud to continue that legacy for many years to come," said Erasmus-Le Grange.
