KNYSNA NEWS - A Knysna man was seriously injured in a para-kiting accident at Buffalo Bay Main Beach on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a swift multi-agency rescue operation.
According to a statement from the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the incident occurred shortly before 15:39, when the NSRI Knysna duty crew received reports of the accident.
“With spring high tide approaching, two NSRI rescue craft, the Eileen Meadway and JAYTEE IV, were launched from the NSRI Knysna Station 12 rescue base,” the statement read.
“The NSRI rescue vehicle, Western Cape Government Health EMS ambulance and rescue squad, SANParks rangers and an off-duty ER24 paramedic also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, NSRI rescue swimmers entered the surf and swam ashore to reach the injured man, who was found to be seriously injured but conscious.”
NSRI medics immediately began treatment on the beach, assisted by paramedics and SANParks rangers.
Due to limited beach access for vehicles, rescuers secured the patient in a stretcher and carried him to the Buffalo Bay Beach parking area. He was then transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a serious but stable condition, under the care of paramedics.
