GARDEN ROUTE NEWS & VIDEO - The recent feeding frenzy of white sharks on the carcass of a humpback whale between Keurbooms and Nature’s Valley seems to be a thing of the past.
In light of the shark activity, NSRI and Bitou Municipality sounded a shark alert last week for the coastal area near Plettenberg Bay.
Dr Enrico Gennari, director of Ocean Research in Mossel Bay, says the carcass has been swept away by currents and has drifted out of sight.
But not before Christian Naegle took a video clip of three sharks gorging themselves on the carcass.
Gennari says sharks are opportunistic feeders, but that fewer sharks have been spotted in recent weeks because of the presence of orcas in the Plettenberg Bay area.
