KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna’s Ward 4 will celebrate Heritage Day in style as they declare this ward the home of sport and political legends.
The ward consists of White Location, Flenter, Rhobololo, Greenfields, Qolweni, Bloemfontein, eThembeni and Happy Rest.
Celebrations are set to kick-off at Chris Nissen Primary School on Saturday 23 September.
Ward councillor Velile Waxa, says, “We’re celebrating our ward and because we do things slightly different, we’ll be giving away training equipment to 14 teams in the ward, reflect on our journey as a ward, and encourage our youth and the sports fanatics.”
He says his focus has always been in sport's development. "The interest in sport has always been there but lack of resources discourages the youth. Seeing dedicated teams struggling to get simple T-shirts is heartbreaking.
"Now we're rewriting our story and cultivating the youth's interest in sports, with six rugby teams, three netball teams, four soccer teams and a boxing club.
"I am confident we're moving in the right direction and generations to come. When celebrating heritage day we will also celebrate our journey in sports."
Waxa extends the invitation to everybody, adding, “And of course, what is a heritage celebration without African signature dishes and song and dance in true African style.”
