KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has extended the objection period for the five-year General Valuation Roll (GVR) for 2023 to 2028 by a month, following a council resolution passed on Monday.
The cut-off date for objections was 30 January, but it has been extended to the end of February.
DA Councillor for Ward 9 Sharon Sabbagh, who held a series of information meetings on the objection process, welcomed the postponement.
However, she said she would have preferred that the implementation of the GVR 2023 to 2028 be delayed to July 2024 to allow a more accurate GVR being implemented.
"It would have allowed the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 budget process to be a more realistic approach with less negative impact on an already increasing and compromised debtors book and declining collection rate, coupled with a severely constrained cash flow crisis for Knysna as stated by both provincial and national treasuries," said Sabbagh.
