PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Foreign visitors to Plett and all other holidaymakers to the area are warned that there has recently been an increase in robberies near Hobie Beach and the Bungalow Hotel.
So far, seven robberies have been reported to police in the area, according to Otto Olivier, operations director of the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA).
The PBCPA posted an urgent notice today alerting the public that the increase in robberies was most noticeable on Church Street and the bushy path leading to Hobie Beach and surrounding areas, also near the Whale Lookout point.
“We request that you please inform your guests to be aware. It is clear that foreign visitors are targeted,” said Olivier.
He said the guests at two hotels, the Plettenberg and Bungalow, have been specifically alerted to the situation.
“However, the appeal is to ALL visitors to Plett using those areas to be on the alert,” said Olivier.
He added that there will be an increase of patrols and visibility from the security cluster to assist local law enforcement and police to prevent any further incidents, which mainly occur in the early evening and early morning hours.
The PBCA emergency number is 082 252 8134.
WO James of the police detective branch in Plettenberg Bay is investigating the cases. The police emergency numbers are: 10111/044 501 1900/1907/1908.
