KNYSNA NEWS – Two artistic brothers from Rheenendal released their latest audio and digital project 'BIOMES' last week, with the music videos to be released periodically via their YouTube channel.
In spite of the uncertain times the world has faced in the past year and a bit, brothers Raen (26) and Chant (22) Messina haven't stopped creating and are composing up a storm.
The duo are musicians, filmmakers, and digital storytellers in every way, and conduct their operations under the moniker 'Hermit State'. They have been running their YouTube channel under the same name and have released various visual and audio projects on the platform since early 2019.
They not only write and compose their own music, but also film their own music videos while still shooting music videos for other local artists too. The duo has also delved into the film-making side of things, receiving international recognition for their work.
In 2020 they were finalists in the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFF) for a short film they created about Knysna, and also received an honourable mention for their short film called The magic candle in the 48 Hour Film Race.
Their latest project is an album which they presented at a small launch in Wilderness recently. They impressed the audience not only with their musical skills but also with their artistic talent for visual creation in the form of the interesting and captivating videos that accompanied the songs.
While the audio tracks are available for purchase on the Bandcamp platform, the music videos for the project will be released on a weekly basis. The first, titled Guano City Cockroach, was released on their YouTube channel on Monday 7 June.
