KNYSNA NEWS & VIDEO - It's all systems go for the fifth annual Knysna Timber Festival, set to take place from 5 to 7 October at Timber Village, situated in the Welbedacht valley.
Festival manager Picca De Bruin accompanied Knysna-Plett Herald recently on a walkabout at Timber Village, where preparations are in full swing for what is anticipated to draw crowds of more than 3 000 people to the event.
“We want to make it bigger than last year, which saw record crowds despite Timber Village being severely affected by the fires,” said De Bruin.
The exhibitors at this year’s festival have been drawn from a broad spectrum of the timber economy, including furniture manufacturers, timber growers, wood millers, timber buyers, members of the timber construction industry, while indoor and outdoor exhibitions and demonstrations areas will provide spaces for conversations, talks, presentations, and films about wood and working with wood.
And with activities for children and adults alike – and an exciting entertainment area featuring live music, a beer tent, and children’s play space – this year’s Timber Festival has been designed with families in mind.
The festival is being hosted by the Knysna Timber Initiative, established to implement a business revitalisation plan for Knysna with the focus on timber and wood industries.
Part of the programme of the Timber Festival will be focused on skills development and support for the local industry.
“The Timber Festival offers something for the entire family and we are excited for what's to come. More information will be made available closer to the event date,” said De Bruin.
