PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Bitou Public Safety Crime Prevention Unit is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
Because of their vigilance during a routine inspection at Plett's taxi rank on Saturday 8 October, officers of the unit caught an alleged drug dealer red-handed and took some tik off the streets.
Bitou municipal spokesperson Andile Namntu said the suspect was in possession of 14 packets of crystal meth, better known as tik.
"It was neatly packed and ready to be sold. The person, who hails from Kwanokuthula, was arrested and charged with possessing drugs," Namntu said. The drugs were also confiscated.
"The work of the crime prevention unit needs to be commended as this arrest came because they saw a group of people gambling at the taxi rank. By being alert to the cause, they were able to uncover this act of crime," he said.
