KNYSNA NEWS - On 25 August renowned founder of Gift of the Givers, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, delivered an inspiring talk at The Knysna Hollow, shedding light on the significance of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility in the aftermath of the devastating Knysna fires. Sooliman's speech emphasised the organisation's spiritual foundation and the overwhelming message of community, unity, and compassion.
The event was organised by Sasha Events and was sponsored by Investec.
Gift of the Givers, as a humanitarian organisation, has provided aid and relief in numerous crises, also here in the Southern Cape. The Knysna fires served as a harrowing reminder of the resilience and strength of the human spirit. Sooliman's talk emphasised the power of unity and compassion within the community.
The fires brought people from different backgrounds and walks of life together, reinforcing the idea that we are all interconnected.
The talk shed light on the pressing need for mental health awareness and sustainability in the face of such disasters. Sooliman emphasised the long-term effects of such traumatic events on individuals and communities. Gift of the Givers aims to address these challenges by not only providing immediate relief but also by focusing on long-term mental health support and sustainable solutions for affected communities.

In a heart-warming gesture, Sasha Events donated R20 000 to Gift of the Givers, further contributing to the organisation's efforts in Knysna. This act of generosity serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility within the community.
In addition to the inspiring talk, attendees had the opportunity to engage with Dr Sooliman during a book signing session that followed after his talk.
"Gratitude, faith and spirituality is what keeps us alive. With every outset, with all the challenges we have in the country and in the world, it's imperative to understand that what cannot be taken away is faith and spirituality. Gift of the Givers is a spiritual organisation at its core and that's how we enact change through hope," says Sooliman on the widespread philanthropy work of the organisation.

Following the talk at The Knysna Hollow, Dr Sooliman and Oceana Group CEO, Neville Brink helped to deliver between 1,4 and 1,6 tonnes of fish to people in need, thanks to a public, private and NPO partnership between Gift of the Givers, Cape Nature, Invasive Fish Species Management and the Oceana Group.
