KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Taxi Forum wishes to inform the community about their march which will take place on 11 June - gathering time at 06:00 and starting time is 06:45.
“We request the support from everyone as our grievances affect every community member in our Greater Knysna," said a statement from the Knysna Taxi Forum.
"I further wish to distance the said forum (KTF) from statements that school children must not go to school and people are free to use their transport to different destinations including schools.
"Our march is aimed at handing over a petition to court, police, Knysna municipality; not the community members - so please feel free to use your transport.”
According to Knysna Taxi Forum secretary, Mandla Tyololo the petition is for the following reasons:
- We need clean and safe public toilets and security at our taxi rank, Sanlam and Masifunde [library]
- Knysna municipality is refusing to grant us taxi operating licenses and yet they are confiscating our vehicles and when we pay a lot of money, release them.
- Traffic lights (Robots) at Sanlam and Lemko
- Pick-up and drop-off zones (stops) in our locations
- Drop-off zone at Oupad (eGeythini)
- Abuse of public and taxi drivers by traffic officers
- Uneven roads in our locations
- Taxi officers at the taxi rank
Court and Police grievances
- Slow and poor service of the police in attending public complaints
- Withdrawal of reported cases without consulting with the complainant
- Granting of bails to accused people on serious cases like rape, house robberies, theft, murders and many more without knowledge of complainants and family members concerned.
