PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Traffic congestion at the intersection of Robberg and Piesang Valley roads in Plettenberg Bay may soon be something of the past, as a traffic circle is on the cards.
The busy intersection has been a thorn in the side of motorists for many years and during recent road upgrades, the Bitou Municipality announced that a traffic circle for the area was in the planning stages.
In the meantime, the Bitou municipal roads section and public safety departments upgraded the intersection over the past week to an all-way stop to enable smooth traffic flow.
"This is an interim measure while a traffic circle is in the planning stage," the Bitou communications team said.
The stop was part of a roads facelift initiative ahead of the seasonal increase in traffic in the area. Bitou Mayor Dave Swart said that this had been a request from residents in the area for a long time.
The traffic circle should be completed by November next year. The Bitou public safety road-marking technical team also painted all the speed humps on Longships Road, making them more visible.
"This will increase the safety of all road users in the area."
