PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plett has become known as a haven for sharks and as a result several shark bite kits have been placed along the coastal holiday town's beaches should a bather have a run-in with one.
Plettenberg Bay's National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) team announced last week that the local community banded together to sponsor the kits which will be positioned at the beaches of Nature's Valley, The Waves, Robberg 5 and the Wreck.
"The first four are up and stocked and will be locked with a combination padlock," the team said.
"If there is an incident you can phone the sea rescue number on the box, and a code will be provided to access the contents and emergency services will be activated."
The NSRI thanked the public who had offered to sponsor more kits, which will be placed on more beaches next year.
"A big thank you goes to Rory Lombard from Plett Yamaha and The Tackle Box for their contribution to get these first few boxes up and running."
