KNYSNA NEWS - Whether you like your eggs fried, scrambled, boiled, or even poached, you definitely won't like having egg on your house. A few Knysna residents have had the misfortune of finding themselves on the receiving end of a group of miscreants who clearly don't like cracking their eggs into a pan.
While serious crimes such as housebreakings and robberies continue to plague Knysna, petty crimes often find a way to slip through the cracks.
This time around, the petty crime comes in the form of a group of individuals who have been driving around Knysna and throwing eggs at houses.
The news of the latest eggings broke on the morning of Friday 10 January, with two eggtacks in Vygie Street in Heuwelkruin and another two in Templeman Road in Knysna Heights. When the news reached a local WhatsApp group on Friday, many residents took the news of the incidents with a pinch of salt (as one should eat eggs). For the next hour or so, jokes and quips flew around the chat group, with one member joking that the Easter bunny might have come a bit early.
While to some, the incidents might seem like a bad yolk, the egg-throwing remains serious. For Owls PHCA Neighbourhood Watch vice chairperson, Loryn Ferguson, the incidents are a concern as they could escalate. "If they continue, then it is possible they could progress to other, more serious forms of vandalism," Ferguson said.
Luckily one of the 'eggings' was caught on an OWLS CCTV camera.
Allsound Security are analysing the footage and investigating further to identify the vehicle involved, in order to track down the people behind the incident.
Ferguson noted that these types of incidents, while seemingly minor, are still serious, as people on the receiving end could open cases of vandalism with the police.
She also reiterated that anyone who has information on future incidents or would simply like to contact Owls PHCA can do so via email at owls@owlsknysna.co.za.
