KNYSNA NEWS - Samwu leadership has submitted a proposal to Acting Municipal Manager Dawie Adonis asking for the municipality to compensate staff members who worked during phase 5 to 4 of the national lockdown.
Knysna Municipality Samwu branch chair Shaun Kralo said category one front-line workers who worked every day confronting the risk of contracting Covid-19 should be given a R25 000 once-off compensation.
"Category two consists of those workers who came to work when they were needed and they should be given R15 000. The third category is to give all workers who worked during level four of the lockdown R7 500," he said.
Kralo also said the proposal includes admin staff or employees who worked as backup for essential services, those who were on standby and those who were issuing permits.
