PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay is on an award-winning roll, with at least eight feathers added to the town's cap in recent weeks.
"This is arguably placing Plett as the most sought-after holiday town along the Garden Route in South Africa, and a contender with other world-class holiday destinations," said Plett Tourism acting chief executive Patty Butterworth.
• One of the most recent accolades includes the World Travel Awards category wherein Plettenberg Bay was voted Africa’s leading beach destination earlier this month, pipping Cape Town, among others, to the post. This was Plett's 11th consecutive nomination and first win.
• On the accommodation front Plett also shone brightly. The world's leading travel publication Condé Nast Traveler, recently announced the results of its annual Readers' Choice Awards. The Plettenberg Hotel not only won the award for best luxury family hotel in South Africa, but is also recognised as number five on the Top 30 Hotels in Africa list.
The World Luxury Hotel Awards is the pinnacle of achievement for a luxury hotel, offering recognition for earning the respect of guests and industry players alike.
• Sky Villa and The Bungalow Plett, members of the Cape Summer Villas group, were also recently awarded TripAdvisor's Travellers Choice "Best of the Best" Award.
• Over the years the town has earned a name for wine producing with many awards, but recently Newstead Lund Family Vineyards became the first producer outside of the traditional Western Cape Winelands to be crowned the overall winner of the prestigious Amorim Cap Classique Challenge. This is South Africa's leading competition that selects the country's best MCC sparkling wines. Only weeks later they also received a five-star rating by the Diner's Club SA Wine Guide 2021 for their 2015 MCC Brut Chardonnay.
Packwood Country Estate also received the acclaimed gold award from Vitis Vinifera for their sauvignon blanc wooded chardonnay. Only 360 bottles of this chardonnay are available and only one barrel was made. "This is a first for Packwood and a first for Plett," Butterworth said.
• Plett also proved that it has some of the best restaurants in the country. Zinzi Restaurant, a flagship restaurant from the Hunter Hotels group, has received a prestigious award during the 2020 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards. Zinzi has also been ranked number two on the Best Fine Dining Restaurants in Africa list.
"We are extremely proud of our amazing tourism businesses and are delighted that each has been recognised with these awards," said Butterworth. "Their commitment to offering a world-class experience has played an important role for the Plett tourism industry, the Garden Route and for South Africa."
