KNYSNA NEWS - The Epilepsy SA Southern Cape/Karoo (SCK) in Knysna kicked off its National Epilepsy Week celebrations yesterday, 8 February, with a big walk around the centre in honour of the 50 Million Steps initiative.
The 50 Million Steps initiative was run for just over a month, from 4 January until 8 February, with the end of the campaign coinciding with celebrations of International Epilepsy Day, which also marks the start of National Epilepsy Week.
The aim of the initiative was for everyone to take one step for each person with the condition, as the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy.
In honour of the initiative, the SCK branch decided to encourage members of the public to 'sponsor' some of the residents to walk around the centre in a loop of roughly one kilometre.

The sponsorships took the form of donations, and some residents managed to complete four laps while others pushed on to complete six.
