KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality will temporarily cut public grass and maintain verges using its own resources and temporary staff.
Mayoral committee member for community services, Councillor Waleed Grootboom, explained that the service had been outsourced, but that the contract with the service providers had expired.
"A call for new bids was advertised and evaluated following the proper supply chain management procedures," he said.
The municipality is currently dealing with the objections received from interested parties, which is causing a delay in appointing new service providers.
"We acknowledge the public's dismay with the appearance of certain areas of public grass and verges, and take our responsibility of preserving the beauty of our town seriously," he said.
"We are taking these temporary steps to rectify the situation - and to maintain it - until such time as new service providers have been appointed."
He thanked the communities for their patience and support, and asked that they bear with the situation in the interim.
"We also ask for your assistance in not exacerbating the situation with illegal dumping or littering. Let's work together to create a beautiful, inclusive, innovative and inspired Knysna."
Please report illegal dumping to the municipality by sending a WhatsApp to 081 556 9374 or calling 044 302 6405.
