KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Regional Court sentenced a 40-year-old man, Babini Goba, to 15 years in prison for the murder of a 24-year-old man in Sanlam Mall, Nekkies, back in 2019.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies said Goba was found guilty of murder after a lengthy trial and was handed the sentence on Wednesday 14 April.
“Intensive investigation by detectives deployed to bring perpetrators of violent crimes to book paid dividends when a hefty sentence was meted out for a charge of murder at the Regional Court at Knysna,” he said.
According to Spies, police responded to a scene at Sanlam Mall in Knysna on 2 August 2019, where the victim had been stabbed to death.
“Investigation at the time revealed that two men had an argument about manhood when they stabbed each other,” said Spies. “The victim sustained a stab wound to the neck and collapsed on the scene. The suspect, Babini Goba (40), fled the scene, but his freedom was short-lived when detectives traced and arrested him the same evening.”
Spies said the Western Cape police management commended the detection as well as prosecuting teams for their diligence in securing this conviction and subsequent sentencing.
