KNYSNA NEWS - The locals who are peevish about the spirit of the Knysna Oyster Festival dying only had to attend this year's Flavours of Knysna on Wednesday 26 June at the Knysna Mall, where this festival highlight of past years appeared anything but dead, as hundreds flocked to taste and vote on the best canapé by Knysna chefs.
The cold snap that grips the town around this time of the year did not seem to deter food enthusiasts who came out in numbers to enjoy offerings from nine stands, mingle and enjoy good music.
Facing some tough competition, the previous winner Melvin Mene of uSatsho Shisanyama was once again the "Flavour of Knysna" with his scrumptious, meaty canapé.
This was a significant win for Mene, who has had many challenges starting from scratch again after his kitchen burnt to dust last year.
Nautical South were voted into second place and 34 South came third.
Guests were in awe of the fare of Knysna's favourite delicacy – the oyster, of course – on offer and consumed these with great gusto as restaurateurs showcased their signature dishes which guests, on presentation of a voucher, could sample.
Among the contenders for the coveted title were Emzini Tours who not only served guests their signature dish but served them flames, so to speak, when they took out their drums and started chanting and dancing.
