KNYSNA NEWS - The RiverDeck Restaurant on the Buffel’s Bay Road is under water. The first storey above ground is the only part that is currently dry.
RiverDeck’s Bennie Terblanche said that he and his staff are waiting for the river to subside so that they can start with the mopping-up exercise.
Fortunately the river rose slowly enough so that they were able to move the tables, canoes and paddle boats to safety.
There is also damage at the Blackwaters River Lodge - the wedding canopy washed away when the Goukamma River burst its banks this morning.
The stand has been spotted approximately 6km away where the river meets the ocean.
Marilia Veldkornet of the Eden District Municipality has issued the following status update regarding local flooding.
Bitou:
• Road closed along Piesang Valley.
• Main road to Wittedrift has been closed.
• Old Keurbooms Road closed due to flooding debris.
• NSRI assisted with the evacuation of a house in Piesang Valley.
Knysna: No evacuations reported.
• A mud/ rock Slide has occurred near the White Bridge and cleaning-up operation has already started.
• The gravel road between Rheenendal and Karatara had be closed due to flooding.
• The gravel road between Rheenendal and Goudveld had be closed due to flooding.
• The road to Buffel’s Bay has only one lane open due to flooding.
• The road to Karatara at the Karawater bridge is closed.
