KNYSNA NEWS - A horror accident on the N2 in Knysna last night, Wednesday 25 August, saw one person lose their life, while five others were transported to hospital with multiple injuries.
The accident occurred at about 19:00 and while the indicated information from the scene was "still sketchy" late last night, Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies confirmed at least two vehicles were involved in the accident.
"Information available from the scene indicates that two vehicles, a white Mercedes Benz and a Kia truck, collided head-on," Spies said.
"The driver of the Mercedes Benz, a 36-year-old woman, sustained multiple injuries and was later declared dead by paramedics on scene."
Spies added that the passenger in the Mercedes-Benz, as well as the four occupants of the truck, sustained "serious injuries". They were all taken to hospital.
While the cause of the accident is yet to be determined, Spies stated that Knysna police have "opened a case of culpable homicide".
The accident, which occurred near the Old Cape Road turn-off and saw the closure of both directions of traffic on the N2, led to hours of delays for motorists.
While a stop-and-go system was put in place throughout the evening and alternative roads were used, traffic flow did not return to normal until very late in the evening.
