PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - It is time for Plettenberg Bay residents and visitors to dust off their walking shoes and, well, their pink bras – to raise awareness and funds around the fight against breast cancer.
Nineteen89 Plett and Events On Route will be hosting the first annual Bra Dash in the town to raise awareness around this cancer that affects one in 25 woman in South Africa.
“Cancer is a very personal issue that we have all felt in one form or another. It does not discriminate, it does not care about gender or races, it does not sway from the privileged or the underprivileged.
"It is very real and has destroyed more families than the current pandemic affecting the world we live in today,” organiser Wesley Whitehead said.
The Bra Dash on 25 October will take on the form of a parade along the entire business district of Plettenberg Bay, and participants are asked to don their best pink bras, sportswear or T-shirts for the occasion.
“Bring your dogs if you have pink clothes that fit them. We will also be selling various items at registration on the morning of the event, if you are missing that specific item to finish your outfit,” said Whitehead.
He also urged businesses in the area to join in the action by adding pink to their business fronts and coming out to support the cause. “We are hoping to raise more than R250 000 for this and we need your help to do it. This will become an annual affair and can only grow from strength to strength with the help of our community.”
Roads will be closed along Main Street including Beacon Way (from the Cupid Street corner) all the way up Main Street ending at the Dolphin Circle at Strand Street.
The event will take place between 10:00 and 12:00 on 25 October and tickets costing R120 are available at www.howler.co.za.
Plett restaurant Nineteen89 will have pink ribbons on sale to use to wrap a tree or lamppost along the Main Street.
All proceeds will be donated directly to Cansa SA with a special earmark for the Plettenberg Bay chapter.
