KNYSNA NEWS - The Paul Harris Award recognises outstanding contributions by individuals who give service above and beyond, and is one of the highest accolades that Rotary can bestow.
It is therefore fitting that Knysna Rotarian Mike Bird was presented with the Paul Harris Award at president Herb Hunter's induction breakfast on Saturday 15 July.
Mike joined Knysna Rotary in 2011. For many years he has played a key role in the success of the club's largest fundraiser, the annual charity golf tournament held each May.
He manages the logistics, transport and display of the sponsors' and advertisers' promotional material at two golf courses per day over a period of three days. This involves liaising with the golf clubs, precision, careful scheduling and tight deadlines.
Mike starts setting up at 05:00 each day and reverses the process at the end of the day's play.
Sponsors and advertisers are assured that in Mike's capable hands their material will be correctly displayed for maximum impact. This is a significant factor in ensuring their continued support of the fundraising event, which in turn enables the Rotary Club of Knysna to continue to serve the needs of the local community.
